Saved – Now What?
Question: I have just put my faith in Jesus…now what?
Answer: Congratulations! You have made a life-changing decision! Perhaps you are asking, “Now what? How do I begin my journey with God?” The five steps mentioned below will give you direction from the Bible.
1. Make sure you understand salvation.
Let’s look at 1 John 5:13: “These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.”
God wants us to understand salvation and have the confidence of knowing we are saved. Briefly, here are the key points:
- (a) We’ve all sinned (Romans 3:23).
- (b) Sin deserves eternal separation from God (Romans 6:23).
- (c) Jesus died for our sins (Romans 5:8; 2 Corinthians 5:21).
- (d) Salvation comes through faith in Jesus (John 3:16; Romans 5:1; Romans 8:1).
If you trust Jesus as your Savior, you are saved! Your sins are forgiven, and God promises to never leave you (Romans 8:38-39; Matthew 28:20). Your salvation is secure (John 10:28-29).
2. Find a good church that teaches the Bible.
The church is the people, not the building. Fellowship with other believers is vital. Find a Bible-believing church and speak with the pastor.
Church purposes include:
- Teaching the Bible (2 Timothy 3:16-17).
- Worshiping God (Revelation 4:11).
3. Set aside time each day to focus on God.
Daily time with God is essential. This can be called “quiet time” or “devotions.” Key elements include:
- Prayer: Talk to God about your life and thank Him.
- Bible Reading: Read Scripture to grow spiritually
